The WordPress version 5.9. Released on Date 25th January 2022.

WordPress 5.9 unveils Gutenberg block-based editor with full site editing (FSE) capabilities.

WordPress 5.9 comes with brand new website editing features that allow users to update and redesign their websites using a simple drag and drop interface.

WordPress 5.9 introduces a navigation block that allows users to create, manage, and reuse menus built from various blocks, from page links to website logos, and more.

A new feature in WordPress 5.9 not only brings an improved web design interface but also a more user-friendly structure to your website. Additionally, the WordPress 5.9 update added the ability to manage menu navigation blocks.

A complete website overhaul takes the development of WordPress and Gutenberg blocks to the next level. The goal of the WordPress Full Site Editing (FSE) project is to leverage the power of the Gutenberg box model to edit content beyond the content of a post or page.

This block editor is a new feature in WordPress 5.9 that greatly simplifies the theme and site editing process. Unique design solutions will be available without code for themes that support this new functionality.

With the new WordPress FSE feature, you will be able to change page layouts using a drag and drop interface. Previously, all of these controls were handled exclusively by your WordPress theme, so integrating them into WordPress core (with block themes enabled) is different from how WordPress previously handled site-wide styles, such as in your site’s footer top and bottom, blog, and blog posts.

If the block settings are not sufficient for your needs, you can extend the existing blocks by adding new settings, but consider whether it should be in a theme or a plugin.

This feature will work similarly to the existing WordPress block editor, making learning easier. With the addition of this functionality, the platform is even closer to becoming a complete website development suite.

WordPress 5.9 with Gutenberg:

WordPress has focused on improving Gutenberg to create the next big thing.

The WordPress 5.0 Gutenberg Update adds a new page and posts, editor, to WordPress that promises to revolutionize the way WordPress pages are created.

Originally scheduled for release in April 2018 bundled with WordPress version 5.0, the new Gutenberg editor will forever change the way you edit posts and pages on your WordPress websites.

With WordPress 5.9 providing more design control along with streamlined access to patterns, you can change the entire look of your website easily.

Since WordPress 5.9, when theme.json declares border settings and a block declares border support via the Block Support API, the new settings panel provides controls for border-radius, width, style, color, and units. These individual components were previously exposed in the block editor (via the Gutenberg plugin) and set to be distributed across the platform.

First introduced in Gutenberg 11.4 and now merged into WordPress 5.9 core, the new Block Spacing control allows WordPress developers to set the custom spacing between elements within a block.

For those who choose to use Gutenberg instead of the old customizer, they can now use the site editor for free. The full site editor sections were released and tested in later years with the release of WordPress 5.9.

With every major release, it becomes clear that Gutenberg and native full site editing is a top priority for the core WordPress development team.
